( Quentin watches Godric to make sure he likes it, although the vampire is very stoic so it's hard to tell. He hasn't thrown it away so that is satisfying enough. He considers the state of the world, glancing around at the idea, although he's also seeing through these walls and to the city of New Amsterdam beyond. )
They're just more stages to you at this point, right? Every few hundred years there's some kind of new era, the industrial revolution, the renaissance, the technology era, and whatever this is now.
( He sips his drink and shrugs. )
This is kind of exactly what I thought was going to happen, considering the climate and the way technology was headed. And the AI thing was suuuuper expected. I guess I'm more impressed the AI didn't manage to win, because humans are pretty good at destroying themselves.
( It's a bleak thing to say from someone who is the opposite of bleak, but for all his optimism, Quentin can still see some things as they are. He just thinks people can get better, that they're all capable of being better. But they can't change the past. )
( Quentin notes that connection, Godric putting him within that 'we' solidly, and he smiles. It isn't a surprise that Godric is adjusting so quickly to his new circumstances, but it's still reassuring. He'd be here either way, if Godric was freaking out about the change or not, but he's less skilled at calming down other people when he's a hot mess himself. )
And we'll keep doing it. This is our home now, our reality. I'm glad we're not in like a zombie or Mad Max-like setting.
( He would not last long in either of those no matter how much he would try to tell himself he could. Nope. Quentin's own acceptance of this as their new normal comes from necessity. He can't go home. He has only the underworld ahead of him. )
But we're really hoping to get out of the safehouse. It's nice they're offering free housing and everything, but I didn't miss dorm-style living, you know?
( there is a brief, undignified moment when godric has to break a string of cheese off his bite of pizza with his fingers because he literally cannot seem to pull the pizza far enough away to snap it. human food is so messy.
(says the man who used to get blood on everything he owned.) give the man a moment to regain his dignity, then: )
I have an apartment that may be to your tastes. I would not mind if you and Mr. Waugh took up residence with me. I have not lived alone in nearly a thousand years, it seems in poor form to start here.
( Quentin watches him attempt to eat the pizza and fall into the classic trap everyone does of dripping cheese. He isn't much better at it despite all his experience, so it's just one of those things, and he smiles, pleased that Godric seems to like it enough to eat. He has a certain glow about him, when he feels like he did a good thing for someone.
His eyes widen at the offer though and he almost blurts out yes we accept immediately because he knows how desperate they both are to get outside of the safehouse. Quentin's having an easier time adjusting to it, but Eliot's really gotten used to more independence. Still. )
I know we'd both be ... super happy and grateful if that were the case, but are you sure? I mean, we're super nice and respectful people who would try and be awesome roommates, but it's your space.

( he does not usually count himself among them, so long has he been removed. but it is fitting, perhaps, to start now. )
