( the question gives him further cause to assume that quentin has spoken with either klaus or caroline on the matter of the changes brought about by the gates. he sees here the touch of kingship in him — that grace and discretion that sees him broach the topic so delicately. )
I have found myself craving such things lately, odd as it may seem.
( it's an answer, as much as anything else would be in the circumstances. )
( Quentin glances over at him, acknowledgement flashing in his thoughtful eyes about what is being said. The first time he met Godric, he said he didn't need human food when Quentin brought it over to him because of being a vampire. So for that to change meant something else changed. He nods slowly. )
The food in this time is pretty decent, at least. You'll be able to try new things which may not have been options before.
( He is the eternal optimist at his core. He knows that losing something vital about yourself is devastating, but it's Q's natural inclination to try and point out things that are good about changes, if it's possible. )
Let me treat. The guy you came in with? Eliot? He's the love of my life. So you helping him keep it together is really appreciated.
( a smile lights his expression when eliot is mentioned. he became quite fond of the boy quite quickly, and he is happy to know that they have each other to keep one another's spirits up. )
I appreciate your generosity, in that case. Do you have any recommendations? I fear my tastes to be somewhat outdated. No one here serves venison and wild turnips, alas.
( it's what passes for humor where he's concerned. )
(Quentin's smile mirrors Godric; it makes the (former) vampire look so young, but it's his eyes that have this ageless quality to them. He is so calm right now, more so than Quentin would be if the tables were turned. He chuckles quietly, hearing the humor for what it is.)
Animal-wise it seems like seafood is the way to go, shrimp is pretty great. Otherwise all things vegetable are still growing around here and the sustainable movement here is pretty impressive. I guess they would have to be, to keep everyone alive.
( Quentin is so very easy when it comes to food. He's even tried the barbequed cricket. )
Oh if they have pizza you should try pizza. ( His eyes light up. ) Pizza is like its own level of food group I could live off of.
( Quentin seems genuinely excited to share this with Godric, nodding enthusiastically. Listen, it sucks, for sure, but if he can point out the ways in which it doesn't entirely suck, he's going to. Pizza is at least one of those reasons. Not that he doubts Godric has had one in his long life, but more that he hasn't needed it until now. Or maybe he hasn't. They'll see.)
Why don't you go get us somewhere to sit and I'll bring stuff over?
( Quentin gets them slices in case Godric wants to try something else after, instead of dedicating to one type, and also a fizzy drink that seems like soda. It's not a coke and pizza, the best combination, but it's something. It's a simple cheese pizza slice for now, and he offers it over.]
If you like it there's other toppings you can put on. They don't have easy access to meat or anything, but there's some options.
( he selects a table near the wall. in lieu of having his impossible strength, he has concerned himself more with the strategy and placement of seating arrangements. he sits with his back to the wall, and gestures for quentin to take a seat at his left. perhaps it is instinct, to leave the right for eric despite the fact he knows full well his child isn't in the city and will likely remain so absent.
when the young man sits down with the pizza, godric accepts a slice of cheese pizza and takes a rather ginger bite of it. it's greasy, like biting into a human with very high rates of cholesterol, but not entirely unpleasing. )
If I hadn't seen the change of civilizations over thousands of years, it might be difficult for me to believe this is the state of the world only five hundred years on from my reckoning.
( Quentin watches Godric to make sure he likes it, although the vampire is very stoic so it's hard to tell. He hasn't thrown it away so that is satisfying enough. He considers the state of the world, glancing around at the idea, although he's also seeing through these walls and to the city of New Amsterdam beyond. )
They're just more stages to you at this point, right? Every few hundred years there's some kind of new era, the industrial revolution, the renaissance, the technology era, and whatever this is now.
( He sips his drink and shrugs. )
This is kind of exactly what I thought was going to happen, considering the climate and the way technology was headed. And the AI thing was suuuuper expected. I guess I'm more impressed the AI didn't manage to win, because humans are pretty good at destroying themselves.
( It's a bleak thing to say from someone who is the opposite of bleak, but for all his optimism, Quentin can still see some things as they are. He just thinks people can get better, that they're all capable of being better. But they can't change the past. )
( Quentin notes that connection, Godric putting him within that 'we' solidly, and he smiles. It isn't a surprise that Godric is adjusting so quickly to his new circumstances, but it's still reassuring. He'd be here either way, if Godric was freaking out about the change or not, but he's less skilled at calming down other people when he's a hot mess himself. )
And we'll keep doing it. This is our home now, our reality. I'm glad we're not in like a zombie or Mad Max-like setting.
( He would not last long in either of those no matter how much he would try to tell himself he could. Nope. Quentin's own acceptance of this as their new normal comes from necessity. He can't go home. He has only the underworld ahead of him. )
But we're really hoping to get out of the safehouse. It's nice they're offering free housing and everything, but I didn't miss dorm-style living, you know?
( there is a brief, undignified moment when godric has to break a string of cheese off his bite of pizza with his fingers because he literally cannot seem to pull the pizza far enough away to snap it. human food is so messy.
(says the man who used to get blood on everything he owned.) give the man a moment to regain his dignity, then: )
I have an apartment that may be to your tastes. I would not mind if you and Mr. Waugh took up residence with me. I have not lived alone in nearly a thousand years, it seems in poor form to start here.
( Quentin watches him attempt to eat the pizza and fall into the classic trap everyone does of dripping cheese. He isn't much better at it despite all his experience, so it's just one of those things, and he smiles, pleased that Godric seems to like it enough to eat. He has a certain glow about him, when he feels like he did a good thing for someone.
His eyes widen at the offer though and he almost blurts out yes we accept immediately because he knows how desperate they both are to get outside of the safehouse. Quentin's having an easier time adjusting to it, but Eliot's really gotten used to more independence. Still. )
I know we'd both be ... super happy and grateful if that were the case, but are you sure? I mean, we're super nice and respectful people who would try and be awesome roommates, but it's your space.
